Throughout the year we will be exploring a variety of different genres of writing. When it comes to writing tasks, we will follow the writing process to guide us through our writing.

Reading:

We will be reading from a wide range of literature this year. Our reading will cover a variety of genre, including fiction and non-fiction. We will make time to read in groups, individually and as a whole class. We will also talk a lot about our reading. We will have some exciting book talk projects to look forward to. Also, visit our book club and get hooked on some of our favorite books!

When it comes to reading, students may have a hard time choosing a book that's just right for them. Here are some tips to help choose a 'just right' book.

Spelling:
​
Every week we will be exploring different spelling patterns. We will work on word study and word meaning activities based on each pattern.
​
Here are some of the patterns we'll be exploring this year:

homonyms & homophones
short & long vowel sounds

We also have a class word wall which consists of commonly misspelled words. Check it out! We will draw attention to these words throughout the year and add more to the list. Students will be expected to spell the words on this list correctly. It will be available in the classroom
(on the wall) and in their writing folders.
